Be An Encourager

Today we are in Proverbs 12 with the Good Morning Girls. There is so much wisdom to be gleaned from this chapter! I chose to focus on Proverbs 12:25 this morning during my Bible study time. I want to be an encourager to those around me who are anxious.

Anxiety in a man's heart weighs him down,
but an encouraging word makes it glad.
~Proverbs 12:25

Anxiety is defined as "a feeling of worry, nervousness, or unease, typically about an imminent event or something with an uncertain outcome."

Anxious feelings can weigh down a person's heart.

Encouraging is defined as "giving someone support or confidence; supportive; positive and giving hope for future success; promising."

An encouraging word can turn around a heart that's anxious into a heart that's glad!

This verse is very timely. It’s easy to get swept up into anxious feelings about the recent turn of events in our world. We have to be careful to guard our heart and mind with the truth that God is still on His throne and nothing that’s happening in this world is taking Him by surprise. Otherwise, we allow our hearts to be weighed down with anxiety over what is happening or what is going to happen.

I’ve tried to be an encourager to others by reminding them that God is still in control and that we know the ending of this story because we’ve read it in the Bible. An encouraging word can help a person get their hearts and minds focused back on the hope we have in Jesus. An encouraging word can turn their eyes back to the truth of God found in His Holy Word and off of the Facebook newsfeed and the television news programs. An encouraging word can make their heart glad again!

I'd like to end our time today with a prayer for us all.

Heavenly Father, help me to be an encourager with my words. May the words of my mouth build up and not tear down. May the words of my mouth be pleasing in your sight and speak life and hope into the lives of those around me who are anxious about anything. I ask that You would fill my heart with words of encouragement from Your Holy Word that I can pour into the anxious hearts around me. Help me to be a blessing in the lives of those who need to hear words of encouragement. I pray for those who are anxious today. You've told us not to be anxious about anything, but in everything, we are to bring our requests to You so that Your peace which surpasses all understanding will guard our hearts and minds. So I lift up anyone with an anxious heart today Father, and ask that You would speak peace, hope, and comfort into their lives. In the hopeful name of Jesus I pray. Amen!

Is there something that you are anxious about today? Let me know in the comments. I'd love to encourage you and pray for you!

Laurie

Finding Wisdom in Winning Souls

We are in Proverbs 11 with the Good Morning Girls today. Finding wisdom in winning souls is something I've never thought about before, but after reading verse 30 today in Proverbs 11, I see why it is so important to have the wisdom of God when it comes to winning souls.

Proverbs Summer Bible Study with Good Morning Girls

God says we are wise when we win souls. But before He says that, God tells us that the "fruit of the righteous is a tree of life". Let's take a look at the whole verse.

The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life;
and he that winneth souls is wise.
~Proverbs 11:30

Before we can ever hope to win anyone to Christ, we must first have the Fruit of the Spirit working in our lives. We see in this verse that the righteous are fruit bearers. The Fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. It's the outward evidence of this fruit in our lives that will draw the unsaved to what we have to say concerning a life surrendered to Jesus Christ.

We need to walk in wisdom when we share the knowledge of the Good News of Jesus Christ with others. We do this by being led in the Spirit of God as we speak and interact with those who have yet to come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.

Finding wisdom in winning souls means we surrender to the Spirit of God and allow Him to do the work required on the heart of the unrepentant while we continue to stand firm on the truth of God and allow His light to shine through us in every word we speak. It is only through the truth that others will be set free from the lies of Satan. We can love while never moving away from the truth of God because if we do move away from the truth, then those who need salvation through Jesus have lost all hope.

Staying grounded in the truth will require us to spend time daily in the Word of God. Reading and studying God's Word will ensure that we will be ready at all times to give a reason for the hope we have in Jesus Christ. As we walk in obedience to the truth that God shows us in His Word, we will be ready to share the wisdom He has given to us with others.

I pray that the fruit of my life is such that will draw others into a saving relationship with Jesus Christ so that I can be a woman of wisdom in the eyes of God. Is that your prayer too?

Walking in His Grace,
Laurie

Having a Teachable Spirit

Wow, we are finishing up Week 2 today in Proverbs with the Good Morning Girls! You are doing great! Today in Proverbs 10, we see that having a teachable spirit is so important, not only in the life of a Christian, but to those around us as well.

Proverbs Summer Bible Study with Good Morning Girls

Whoever heeds instruction is on the path to life,
but he who rejects reproof leads others astray.
~Proverbs 10:17

Those who walk on the path to life listen to the instruction of God. Those who reject God’s instruction not only lead themselves away from God, but influence others to reject God’s instruction too.

I want to positively influence others with the life I live for Jesus. I want to be able to speak with wisdom when friends come to me needing help with their problems or needing comfort during the sorrows of their life. More than anything, I want to take the instruction I've received from God during my quiet time in the Word of God and speak life into the heart of others and point them to the One Who can meet every need in their life.

We have to be careful who we go to in order to receive instruction. Is the person you are going to pointing you to the Word of God and to Jesus Christ?

We should be eager to receive the instruction of God because it leads to eternal life with God. God's instruction is found in His Holy Word - the Bible - and keeps us on the right path. We should pray for others who have rejected the truth of God for the lies of Satan and for those they are leading astray by their influence.

Having a teachable spirit is something we all should possess. Walking in obedience to God's instruction can be a powerful witness to others. It will keep us on the path to eternal life with God, and hopefully influence others to join us on the path to eternal life.

Here's our reading plan for next week!

Laurie
